Leica IIIg
The final and most advanced 35mm screw-mount rangefinder model, featuring a large parallax-corrected viewfinder.
The Leica IIIg, introduced in 1957, was the final evolution of the Leica screw-mount rangefinder series. It is distinguished by its large, bright viewfinder which includes parallax-corrected frame lines for both 50mm and 90mm lenses. Mechanically, it offers shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/1000th and a built-in self-timer. It represents the pinnacle of L39 mount cameras, combining the classic Barnack design with improved framing accuracy.
Prospective owners should check the condition of the viewfinder, as the silvering in the rangefinder can degrade over time. SDS verifies that the frame lines are clear and the parallax correction is functioning correctly. As with all vintage Leicas, the shutter curtains are inspected for light leaks and the slow speeds are timed for accuracy. We also check the vulcanite for cracking and ensure the film pressure plate is smooth.
