The Canon 7 is a 35mm rangefinder camera that represents the pinnacle of Canon's L39 (Leica Thread Mount) development. Unlike earlier models, it features a built-in dual-range selenium light meter and a unique external bayonet for the specialized 50mm f/0.95 lens, alongside its standard screw mount. It offers selectable bright-line frames in the viewfinder for 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm, and 135mm lenses, with automatic parallax correction.
A primary concern with the Canon 7 is the selenium meter, which often loses sensitivity or dies completely over decades; SDS tests these for basic functionality. The stainless steel shutter curtains are prone to wrinkling, though this often does not affect light-tightness; we inspect these carefully for pinholes.
