The Leica M1 is a simplified 35mm rangefinder-style camera produced between 1959 and 1964. Distinctly, it lacks a built-in rangefinder mechanism, offering only a viewfinder with parallax-corrected frames for 35mm and 50mm lenses. Originally intended for scientific, technical, or wide-angle use where scale focusing was sufficient, it retains the high-quality mechanical feel of the M-series. It uses the standard Leica M-mount and a cloth focal-plane shutter.
