Canon TLb
A mechanical 35mm SLR utilizing the Canon FD mount, featuring stopped-down metering.
The Canon TLb is a robust 35mm SLR camera using the Canon FD lens mount. Launched in the 1970s, it was designed as a simpler version of the FTb, featuring a stopped-down metering system and a focal plane shutter with speeds up to 1/500s. It is a purely mechanical camera, requiring a battery only for the light meter, making it a reliable choice for students and traditional enthusiasts.
When inspecting a used TLb, the accuracy of the slow shutter speeds is a primary concern. We check the light meter for responsiveness, bearing in mind it was originally designed for 1.35v mercury cells. The foam light seals and mirror bumper are almost always in need of replacement on original units, which SDS checks. We also ensure the film advance is smooth and the viewfinder is free from silvering or excessive dust.
