Voigtländer Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 MC VM - Leica M mount
Voigtländer Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 MC VM is a compact manual-focus prime lens for Leica M-mount rangefinders. The 40mm focal length sits neatly between 35mm and 50mm, making it a versatile everyday choice for street, travel and documentary work, while the f/1.4 maximum aperture gives it low-light flexibility and shallow depth of field potential. It is a full-frame lens with close-focus performance down to 0.7m, a 43mm filter thread and a small, light metal barrel that keeps M cameras balanced. Like many classic Voigtländer designs, it is valued more for character and portability than clinical perfection, with a rendering that many users choose for its compactness and distinctive look rather than modern autofocus convenience. The lens is fully manual, so rangefinder focusing accuracy and smooth aperture and focus operation matter more than electronic features. Used buyers should check the focus helicoid for smoothness and even resistance, the aperture blades for oil or sluggish movement, the front and rear elements for haze, fungus, scratches or cleaning marks, and the mount for wear from repeated fitting to M bodies.
