Model Overview

Pentax MG

A compact, user-friendly 35mm SLR focusing on aperture-priority automation and K-mount lens compatibility.

The Pentax MG is a lightweight 35mm SLR released in the early 1980s as an evolution of the MV series. It is an aperture-priority camera, meaning the user selects the aperture while the camera automatically chooses the appropriate shutter speed between 1 second and 1/1000s. It features a simplified viewfinder display with LEDs and uses the standard K-mount, making it a compact entry point into the Pentax system. As with many M-series Pentax cameras, the internal foam dampers and external light seals are prone to degradation and usually require replacement to prevent light leaks. The shutter should be tested for accuracy, particularly at slower speeds where electronic lag can occur. SDS verifies that the light meter responds correctly to changing light conditions and that the film advance lever operates without excessive resistance.
