Pentax ME

The Pentax ME is a compact 35mm SLR, notable for being smaller than many contemporary rangefinders. It operates primarily in aperture-priority autoexposure mode, utilizing a vertical-travel metal focal plane shutter with speeds from 8 seconds to 1/1000s. The viewfinder is exceptionally large and bright for a camera of its size, providing a 0.97x magnification. It uses the versatile K-mount, allowing access to a vast range of SMC Pentax lenses. When sourcing a used ME, the condition of the light seals and the mirror return damper is the first point of inspection, as these commonly perish and become sticky. The electronics should be checked for consistency, particularly the LEDs in the viewfinder which indicate shutter speeds. SDS technicians verify the accuracy of the light meter and ensure the film transport mechanism is smooth, as the winding gears can occasionally slip on well-used examples.
