Pentax MZ-M
A lightweight 35mm K-mount SLR geared towards manual focus photography.
The Pentax MZ-M (also known as the ZX-M) is a 35mm SLR designed specifically for manual focus use, though it retains the Pentax KAF2 mount. It features a split-image focusing screen, aperture-priority AE, and manual exposure modes. It is a lightweight, compact body that serves as an excellent entry point for those wanting to use manual K-mount lenses with the convenience of an electronic shutter and built-in motor drive.
The most frequent fault with the MZ series is the failure of the small plastic mirror drive gear, which results in the mirror becoming stuck in the up position. SDS tests the shutter and motor advance for consistent operation. The battery door on this model is also a known weak point and can snap if mishandled. Additionally, the LCD panel on the top plate should be checked for bleed or fading.
