A classic, robust 35mm SLR and the first Nikon model to feature an electronic shutter and auto-exposure.
The Nikkormat EL (Nikomat EL in Japan) was Nikon's first electronic-shutter SLR, released in 1972. It features aperture-priority auto-exposure and a vertical-travel metal focal-plane shutter. Built to a high standard of mechanical durability, it utilizes the pre-AI (non-AI) lens coupling system, though it can accept later AI lenses with the 'rabbit ears' coupling prong.
For the Nikkormat EL, the battery compartment is uniquely located under the mirror inside the camera body; we check this area for cleanliness. We verify the functionality of the 'Auto' exposure mode and the meter needle movement. The metal shutter curtains are inspected for damage, and the film transport is tested for smooth operation.
