Nikon F Photomic

The Nikon F Photomic was the first metered version of the legendary Nikon F 35mm SLR system. It features an external selenium or early CdS cell (depending on the specific sub-model) to provide light readings directly through the viewfinder. As a professional-grade mechanical camera, it offers a modular design with interchangeable finders, focusing screens, and backs. It is built to a high standard of durability, intended for heavy journalistic and studio use during the 1960s. When evaluating a used Photomic, the functionality of the aged light meter is often the most critical factor, as many no longer react to light or are inaccurate. SDS performs a full mechanical audit of the shutter speeds and film transport system. We also look for evidence of prism damage, such as desilvering lines across the view. The battery contacts should be inspected for historical leakage, and the lens mounting flange is checked for alignment and wear from decades of use.
