Nikon F Photomic FTn

The Nikon F Photomic FTn represents the final and most sophisticated iteration of the original Nikon F metered finders. Introduced in 1968, this 35mm SLR finder added semi-automatic maximum aperture indexing (the 'Nikon shuffle') and center-weighted metering. The camera itself is a mechanical mainstay, renowned for its modular design and exceptional build quality. It supports the full range of non-AI and AI-converted Nikkor lenses, providing a tactile, fully manual photographic experience. For used FTn models, the accuracy of the light meter is the primary concern, as the original cadmium sulphide cells can fail or lose calibration over time. SDS checks the meter against a reference source and inspects the battery compartment for corrosion from leaked mercury cells. The mechanical shutter is tested across all speeds, particularly the slow speeds which can become sluggish. Potential buyers should also note the condition of the prism, checking for 'desilvering' or internal dust that can obstruct the view.
