Nikon F2 Photomic

The Nikon F2 Photomic (DP-1) is a professional 35mm SLR that succeeded the original Nikon F, offering improved ergonomics and a more robust shutter mechanism. The DP-1 finder provides a center-weighted CdS light meter with a needle display visible in the viewfinder. Known for its 'battleship' construction, the F2 is entirely mechanical, requiring batteries only for the light meter. It features a swing-open back for easier film loading and supports a wide range of vintage Nikkor glass. On used F2 Photomic bodies, the DP-1 meter is frequently subject to 'needle jump' or complete failure due to aged resistors. SDS tests the meter's linearity and checks the shutter for accuracy, particularly at the 1/2000s top speed. The foam light seals and mirror bumper are common wear points that usually require replacement in older units. We also inspect the battery compartment for corrosion and ensure the film advance lever operates smoothly without internal resistance or grinding.
