Leitz Summitar 50mm f/2 - Leica L/L39/LTM
Leitz Summitar 50mm f/2 is a classic Leica screw-mount prime lens with a compact, all-metal design. Introduced in 1939, it sits between the earlier Summar and later Summicron in Leica’s 50mm family, and is best known for its characterful rendering rather than clinical sharpness. On film rangefinders it offers a normal field of view, a bright f/2 maximum aperture for low light and shallow depth of field, and a manual-focus, manual-aperture shooting experience that many users still enjoy for its tactile feel. The optical signature is typically described as soft wide open with improved definition stopped down, and the lens can produce attractive vintage contrast and bokeh. It was made in Leica screw mount (L39/LTM/M39), and can also be used on Leica M bodies with the correct adapter. Used examples vary widely in cosmetic condition and optical cleanliness, so check focus smoothness, aperture blade operation, front and rear element scratches, haze, fungus, cleaning marks and any signs of oil on the aperture blades or wear to the mount and rangefinder coupling surfaces.
