Leitz Summar 50mm f/2 - Leica LTM
Leitz Summar 50mm f/2 is a Leica LTM prime lens with a compact, all-metal build and classic rendering. Introduced in 1957, it sits between the slower 50mm Summitar and the later Summicron, offering a practical balance of size, speed and character for screw-mount Leica users. On film rangefinders it gives a natural normal perspective, with smooth manual focus and a straightforward optical formula that is valued more for its vintage look than for modern clinical sharpness. Compared with later Leica 50mm designs, it typically delivers lower contrast wide open and a gentler image signature, which many photographers appreciate for portraits and general street work. It is fully manual, so handling is simple and direct, and on adapters it can also be used on digital bodies that accept 39mm screw-mount lenses. Used-market checks should focus on smooth focusing, aperture blade cleanliness and oil, front and rear element condition, haze, scratches, separation and signs of fungus, plus wear to the screw-mount threads and any adapter fit issues.
