Canon EOS 850
A simplified, fully automatic 35mm film SLR compatible with Canon EF lenses.
The Canon EOS 850, introduced in 1988, was one of the earliest entry-level autofocus 35mm SLRs in the EOS line. It is notable for its extremely simplified interface, lacking a traditional mode dial and relying instead on a 'Program' AE mode for point-and-shoot simplicity. It features a built-in motor drive for automatic film advance and is fully compatible with all Canon EF mount lenses, offering a straightforward way to shoot film.
On the used market, the EOS 850 is prone to the same shutter bumper degradation found in other early EOS bodies, which manifests as a sticky residue on the shutter blades. SDS tests the film transport mechanism and ensures the shutter timings remain accurate. The top-deck LCD is minimal but should be checked for clarity. As this model lacks manual controls, ensuring the light meter is accurate and the autofocus is responsive is critical.
