Sony FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar T* - Sony E-mount

This full-frame E-mount prime is highly regarded for its sharpness and compact size. The Sonnar optical design and f/1.8 aperture provide excellent low-light performance and shallow depth of field. It features a weather-resistant construction and the Zeiss T* coating. Despite being designed for full-frame sensors, it also performs exceptionally well on APS-C bodies, providing an 82.5mm equivalent field of view. When inspecting a used 55mm f/1.8, check the metal exterior for scuffs, as the smooth finish marks easily. The autofocus is usually very robust, but SDS tests the linear motor for speed and accuracy. The front element is relatively small and well-recessed, but we always check for scratches or coating damage. We also ensure the lens mount is tight and free from excessive play when attached to a camera body.
