The 'Light Edition' (LE) of the 18-200mm lens offers the same versatile 11x zoom range as the original but in a significantly smaller and lighter black chassis. It is designed for Sony APS-C E-mount cameras, providing a 27-300mm equivalent range. Despite the reduced weight, it retains Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation, making it an ideal companion for smaller NEX or A6000-series bodies during travel. Because this lens is lighter, the zoom mechanism feels different to the original silver version; SDS checks for smooth travel throughout the range. We look for dust ingress, which can be common in long-ratio zooms with extending barrels. The focus ring is thinner on this model, so we ensure it operates without grit or friction. We also test the OSS performance to ensure it hasn't been compromised by previous impacts.
