The Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens specifically designed for APS-C sensor DSLRs. At its widest setting, it provides a field of view equivalent to approximately 12mm on full-frame, making it one of the widest rectilinear zooms available for crop-sensor cameras. It incorporates FLD glass elements to correct chromatic aberrations and an inner focusing system that keeps the lens length constant during operation. Because this lens has a bulbous front element, it cannot accept standard screw-in filters; the front glass should be meticulously inspected for scratches. SDS checks the HSM autofocus motor for speed and silent operation. The zoom and focus rings are tested for consistent resistance throughout their range. We also verify the alignment of the built-in petal-type hood, as any impact damage to this area can affect the internal optical centring.
