The Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is a high-magnification superzoom lens designed for Nikon Z-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. It offers a 14.2x zoom range, providing significant versatility for travel and outdoor photography where carrying multiple lenses is impractical. Despite its wide focal range, the lens remains relatively compact and features 5.0 stops of built-in Vibration Reduction, increasing to 5.5 stops when used with Synchro VR on compatible bodies. When inspecting a used 28-400mm, we check the smoothness of the zoom action across the entire range, as long telescopic barrels can be prone to stiffening if exposed to grit.
