It is noted for its flat field of focus and exceptional sharpness at close distances. The lens features a deeply recessed front element that acts as a natural lens hood, reducing flare during outdoor macro work. On used examples, pay close attention to the long-throw focus helicoid; it should be smooth and consistent across the entire range without gritty spots. Check the aperture diaphragm for responsiveness and signs of oil.
