The Minolta AF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 D is an updated version of the standard zoom, featuring an integrated distance encoder ('D' function). This allows for more accurate ADI flash metering when used with compatible Minolta or Sony A-mount bodies. It remains a very lightweight, plastic-construction lens designed for ease of use and portability.
Check the electronic contacts on the mount to ensure the 'D' function data is correctly transmitted to the camera. The screw-drive autofocus should be tested for speed and accuracy. Like many consumer zooms, the barrel can develop play over time, so we check for excessive wobbling. The optics should be clear of fungus and internal fogging.
