Jupiter Jupiter-8 50mm f/2 - M39
Jupiter-8 50mm f/2 is a Soviet M39 rangefinder prime with classic Sonnar-style rendering. Built for manual focus and manual aperture control, it is compact and light, with a simple all-metal feel that suits vintage bodies and adapted use on mirrorless cameras. Its full-frame image circle makes it a natural match for 35mm film cameras, and on digital it typically delivers a softer, lower-contrast look wide open with more bite as it stops down. The 50mm focal length is versatile for everyday shooting, portraits and street work, while the f/2 maximum aperture gives a modestly bright viewfinder image and enough subject separation for shallow-depth-of-field work. As with many older Soviet lenses, condition matters more than cosmetics: check that focus turns smoothly, aperture blades are dry and snappy, and that there is no haze, fungus, separation or excessive oil inside. On used examples, also inspect the M39 mount threads for wear and ensure the optics are free from impact damage or stiff helicoid grease.
