Zeiss Jena Pancolar 80mm f/1.8 - M42
Zeiss Jena Pancolar 80mm f/1.8 M42 is a manual-focus prime lens with a fast f/1.8 aperture. This East German normal-to-short-telephoto lens sits in the classic Jena lineup and is known for its solid metal construction, smooth focusing and distinctive rendering rather than modern clinical sharpness. On a 35mm film body it gives a flattering portrait perspective, while on digital M42-adapted cameras it remains a characterful option for people who want shallow depth of field and a vintage look. The lens is fully mechanical, so operation depends on the body and adapter used, and image quality can vary with sample condition and lens servicing history. It appeals most to users who value manual control, compact all-metal build and the look of older Carl Zeiss Jena optics. Used-market checks should include smoothness of the focus helicoid, aperture blade action, oil on the diaphragm, haze, cleaning marks, fungus, separation and any play in the mount or filter ring.
