Voigtländer Heliar 40mm f/2.8 Aspherical VM - Leica M mount
Voigtländer Heliar 40mm f/2.8 Aspherical VM is a compact manual-focus prime lens with a classic 40mm field of view. Its small size and light weight make it a discreet choice for Leica M and compatible rangefinder users who want a normal-to-slightly-wide perspective without carrying a larger optic. The aspherical design is intended to help keep the lens crisp and controlled across the frame, while the modest f/2.8 maximum aperture suits travel, street and everyday shooting where portability matters more than shallow depth of field. As a VM-mount lens, it relies on the camera for focusing support only through rangefinder coupling on compatible bodies, so handling is direct and deliberate. It is often chosen by photographers who value compact build, straightforward mechanics and a render that feels balanced rather than exaggerated. When buying used, check that the focusing ring moves smoothly, the aperture blades are clean and snappy, the rangefinder coupling is accurate on an M body, and the glass is free from haze, fungus, separation and excessive cleaning marks.
