Schneider-Kreuznach Symmar-S 240mm f/5.6 - Large Format
Schneider-Kreuznach Symmar-S 240mm f/5.6 is a large format lens with a 240mm focal length and f/5.6 maximum aperture. It is a Symmar-S convertible-style view-camera lens from Schneider’s classic large-format line, intended for use on technical and field cameras rather than 35mm bodies, and is prized for its even sharpness, strong contrast and generous image circle for movements. In practical use it is a manual-aperture lens with a Copal-type shutter on most examples, so operation is entirely mechanical and exposure control depends on the shutter and the user’s setup. On the used market, condition matters more than age alone: check the shutter for accurate speeds, smooth cocking and firing, clean aperture blades, clean glass with no haze or fungus, and inspect the cells and shutter mounts for signs of damage or separation. If supplied in lens boards, also confirm the board is the correct size and that there is no play or wear from previous mounting.
