Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC - Canon EF
Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC Canon EF is a manual-focus full-frame portrait prime with a fast f/1.4 aperture. It is known for strong centre sharpness when stopped down, attractive background blur and a solid, straightforward build that suits careful portrait, wedding and low-light work. As a fully manual lens, focus is set by a long, smooth throw, which gives good precision but is slower than autofocus alternatives and needs more deliberate handling on moving subjects. The Canon EF version mounts directly to full-frame and APS-C Canon DSLRs and mirrors the classic Samyang optical recipe with internal focusing and a large 72 mm front thread. At around 513 g, it is substantial without being unwieldy, though the lack of stabilisation means camera support or steady technique helps at slower shutter speeds. Used buyers should check that the focus ring feels even, that the aperture blades move cleanly, and inspect the optics for haze, fungus, scratches or impact marks, especially on the front element and filter threads. Check the mount for wear and confirm infinity focus is accurate, since this is a manual lens and any mechanical slack shows up quickly in use.
