Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter
Nikon FTZ is a Nikon F to Z lens adapter with electronic control and tripod support. Launched in 2018, it lets Nikon Z mirrorless users mount a huge range of F-mount lenses while preserving metering, EXIF data and, with compatible lenses, autofocus and Vibration Reduction. In use it feels solid and well made, with a metal exterior and a design that matches the depth of Nikon’s Z bodies rather than adding much bulk. It is especially useful for owners of AF-S, AF-P and many newer AF-P lenses, where performance is generally close to native handling, while older screw-drive AF lenses lose autofocus because the adapter does not include a focus motor. The FTZ is also popular with photographers moving from DSLR to Z who want to keep their existing glass for landscapes, portraits and general shooting before investing in native Z lenses. It is not a creative converter; there is no optical element, so image quality depends on the lens attached. When buying used, check the mount for looseness or scoring, inspect the contacts for wear or corrosion, and make sure the tripod foot, if included, locks securely and the release latch operates smoothly.
