Model Overview

Leica Leicaflex

A classic, all-mechanical 35mm SLR camera from the Leica R-system.

The Leicaflex was Leica's first 35mm SLR camera, introduced in 1964. It features a mechanical focal plane shutter with speeds up to 1/1000 sec and a built-in external light meter. Known for its exceptional build quality and bright, clear viewfinder, it uses the Leica R-mount system, providing access to legendary R-series optics. The Mark I version is distinguished by its 'pie-slice' shaped exposure meter window. Used Leicaflex bodies should be checked for the accuracy of the light meter, which relies on now-discontinued mercury batteries (modern alternatives are required). SDS examines the shutter curtains for pinholes or lag and ensures the film transport is smooth. The mirror foam and light seals may need replacement on original units to prevent light leaks and internal damage.
