Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 - Sony E-mount

The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 is a revised fast telephoto zoom for Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. This second-generation lens introduces Tamron’s Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism, which was absent in the original version, while maintaining a compact form factor. It uses two VXD linear motors for high-speed, quiet autofocus and offers improved close-focusing capabilities. The constant f/2.8 aperture makes it suitable for portraiture and low-light sports photography. Used G2 units are checked for the presence of the USB-C port for firmware updates via Tamron Lens Utility. We test the linear motors for silent and precise tracking and verify the effectiveness of the added VC system. The barrel is inspected for impact damage, and we ensure the zoom action remains consistent. We also check the weather-resistant seals and the coating on the front element for any signs of cleaning marks.
