The Sony FDR-AX1 is a prosumer 4K camcorder equipped with a 1/2.3-type Exmor R CMOS sensor and a 20x optical zoom G Lens. It was one of the first consumer-accessible cameras to support 4K 60p recording, utilising the XAVC S format. The body features professional-style controls, including three manual rings for focus, zoom, and iris, alongside dual XLR audio inputs for external microphones. It records to XQD media cards, ensuring high bit-rate stability for long-form video projects.
Used units should be checked for the smoothness of the manual control rings and the condition of the XQD card slots. The zoom rocker should operate without stuttering across the full range.
