Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC - Nikon F
Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC Nikon F is a manual-focus portrait prime with a bright f/1.4 aperture. This lens is aimed at full-frame Nikon F users who want shallow depth of field, strong subject separation and a classic short-telephoto perspective without paying premium-brand prices. Build quality is typically solid for the class, with a large focus ring and internal focusing, but operation is fully manual, so it suits photographers comfortable setting focus themselves or using focus confirmation. Optically, it is best known for pleasing background blur and good centre sharpness, with performance improving as it is stopped down; at wider apertures it can show the softer rendering and lower contrast common to fast portrait lenses. The 72mm filter thread and 1m minimum focus distance make it straightforward to use for portraits and detail work, though it is less versatile than autofocus alternatives for fast-moving subjects. On the used market, check the focus action for smoothness, inspect the front and rear elements for haze, fungus, scratches or coating marks, and make sure the aperture blades are clean and oil-free; also confirm the Nikon F mount shows no excessive wear or looseness.
