The Pentax K100D is a 6.1-megapixel APS-C digital SLR, notable for being one of the first entry-level models to feature in-body Shake Reduction. It utilises a CCD sensor, favoured by some photographers for its colour reproduction, and is compatible with almost all Pentax K-mount lenses. The camera is powered by four AA batteries, making it convenient for travel where proprietary chargers might be an issue.
When inspecting a used K100D, the battery door latch should be checked for cracks, as it is a known weak point under the pressure of four NiMH cells. The SD card slot is limited to standard SD cards (up to 2GB) unless the firmware has been updated to support SDHC. SDS technicians verify the sensor is free from dust and that the Shake Reduction mechanism engages and disengages correctly.
