A consumer-level 35mm SLR featuring a unique motor-driven manual focus thumbwheel system.
The Olympus OM-101 (known as the OM-88 in some markets) is a 35mm SLR designed for ease of use. It features a unique 'Power Focus' dial on the back, allowing the user to drive the lens motor manually via a thumbwheel. It is compatible with OM AF lenses and most manual OM Zuiko lenses in aperture priority or program mode. It is primarily a consumer-oriented camera aimed at those moving up from compacts.
When inspecting a used OM-101, the battery compartment should be checked for corrosion from leaked AAA batteries. The Power Focus dial mechanism can sometimes become unresponsive or jittery over time.
