Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED is a professional full-frame standard zoom. Built as a fast workhorse, it combines a constant f/2.8 aperture with Nikon’s AF-S silent wave motor, internal focusing and ED glass for strong contrast and good control of colour fringing. On film bodies and full-frame digital cameras it covers a very useful 28mm wide end through to short telephoto, making it a classic event, portrait and general-purpose lens for photographers who want a robust all-rounder rather than a lightweight kit zoom. Handling is substantial rather than nimble, with the 77mm filter thread and almost 1 kg weight reflecting its pro-era construction. Image quality is generally regarded as solid and dependable, though its age means samples can vary and modern zooms may be better corrected for flare and edge performance. It is best suited to users of Nikon F-mount DSLRs and film bodies who value build quality and a bright constant aperture. When buying used, check autofocus smoothness, zoom and focus ring play, front and rear element condition, dust, haze, fungus and aperture-blade operation, as well as the mount and rubber grips for wear.
