Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR is a Nikon F-mount DX superzoom lens with a 16.7x range. It is designed for APS-C Nikon DSLRs and covers everything from wide-angle travel shots to strong telephoto reach in a single lens. The AF-S motor gives quiet autofocus, while VR helps hand-held shooting at slower shutter speeds, especially useful at the long end. Compared with the older f/3.5-5.6 version, this edition is noticeably lighter and more compact, making it easier to carry as an all-day walkabout or holiday lens. As with most ultra-zoom designs, it trades outright optical perfection for convenience: centre sharpness is generally the strongest point, while edge detail, distortion and flare control are typical things to watch, particularly at the extremes of the zoom range. The 0.48 m minimum focus distance adds some close-up flexibility for flowers, food and detail shots, though it is not a true macro lens. On the used market, check for smooth zoom action, accurate autofocus, VR operation, front element marks, dust, haze or fungus, and wear on the mount or filter threads.
