Minolta AF-E

The Minolta AF-E (known as the Freedom II in some markets) is an early autofocus 35mm compact camera. It features a high-quality 35mm f/3.5 lens, which is notably sharper than many later budget compacts. The camera offers fully automatic exposure and film handling, including a motor drive for winding. A sliding cover protects the lens and prevents accidental shutter firing. Buyers should look for clean battery contacts, as these cameras often sat for years with batteries inside. We test the autofocus accuracy and the motorised film take-up spool. The 'E' in the name refers to its easy-loading system; we verify that this mechanism correctly grips the film leader.
