The Hasselblad 553ELX is a motorised medium format film camera within the V-System, building upon the design of the 500EL series. It features a built-in motor drive for automatic film winding and uses standard AA batteries rather than the proprietary rechargeable packs found in earlier EL models. It incorporates a large start/release button and is compatible with the full range of Carl Zeiss C, CF, CFI, and CFE lenses, as well as various film backs and viewfinders.
SDS checks used 553ELX bodies for battery compartment corrosion, a common issue if AA batteries are left inside for long periods. The motor drive is tested for smooth operation and cycle speed. We also inspect the mirror for desilverage and ensure the auxiliary shutters (barn doors) open and close in correct synchronisation with the lens shutter. The TTL flash metering system is verified for accuracy.
