Cosina MC Cosinon-W 28mm f/2.8 - M42
Cosina MC Cosinon-W 28mm f/2.8 M42 is a manual-focus wide-angle prime lens for M42 screw-mount cameras. It is a compact, straightforward lens aimed at general-purpose wide-angle use, with a 28mm focal length that suits street, travel and documentary work on film bodies, and can also be adapted to many mirrorless systems. As a Cosina-made third-party lens, it is typically valued for its small size and uncomplicated operation rather than exotic optical features. The multi-coated design helps control flare compared with older single-coated options, but image character and corner performance depend heavily on copy condition and stopping down. Exact weight is not consistently documented, so it is omitted here. When buying used, check that the aperture blades are clean and snappy, the focus ring turns smoothly without stiffness or play, and the glass is free from haze, fungus, separation, scratches or excessive cleaning marks. Also inspect the M42 threads and rear element for wear, and confirm the aperture stop-down mechanism works correctly.
