Century Optics MK1 - 58mm
Century Optics MK1 58mm is a PL-mount fisheye lens for camcorders with a 58mm filter thread and manual operation. It is a specialist wide-angle optic aimed at dramatic distortion and close, immersive framing rather than rectilinear coverage, so it suits effects work, action, music video and other creative shooting where the curved perspective is part of the look. The MK1 is a straightforward, purpose-built lens with no autofocus or image stabilisation, and it was designed for camcorder use rather than stills systems. At 450 g it is relatively substantial for its type, so support and careful balancing matter on smaller rigs. Being a fish-eye lens, edge behaviour and barrel distortion are central to its character, and the practical usefulness depends on matching it to the intended camera and adapter setup. As an older specialist lens, used-market checks should focus on smooth focus movement, any play in the mount, front and rear element condition, internal haze or fungus, and whether the optics have been cleaned or damaged by improper storage.
