Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f/3.5 MC Sonnar - M42
Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f/3.5 MC Sonnar M42 telephoto lens is a compact manual-focus classic with Zeiss rendering. Built for the M42 screw mount, it offers a straightforward 135mm focal length that suits portraiture, details and compressed perspectives on film and adapted digital bodies. The Sonnar optical lineage is known for good central sharpness, smooth out-of-focus areas and strong contrast for its era, while the MC coating helps control flare better than earlier single-coated versions. Like most lenses of this type, operation is fully manual, so focus feel and aperture ring condition matter more than electronic features. It is a practical choice for photographers who want a modestly sized vintage telephoto with a distinctive character rather than modern autofocus convenience. Used-market checks should include smooth focus travel, clean aperture blades, absence of haze, fungus or separation, and inspection of the M42 threads and front/rear elements for damage.
