Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM telephoto prime with a bright f/2.8 aperture and optical stabilisation. Built for the RF system, this super-telephoto is aimed at sports, wildlife and action work where reach, speed and subject separation matter. It is notably lighter than many older 400mm f/2.8 designs, yet still a substantial lens that rewards monopod use for long sessions. Autofocus is fast and confident on compatible EOS R bodies, and the lens is designed to deliver the crisp centre sharpness, strong contrast and attractive background blur expected from Canon’s L-series supertelephotos. The RF mount also lets it integrate well with modern mirrorless bodies, including subject tracking and in-body stabilisation coordination where supported. Like most lenses in this class, the front element is large and the lens is intended for full-frame coverage only. When buying used, check the mount for wear, verify autofocus accuracy and smooth operation, inspect the optics for haze, fungus, scratches or impact damage, and confirm the stabiliser engages quietly and consistently. Also look for clean rear contacts and any signs of dust or moisture ingress around the seals and focusing controls.
