Canon Canonet 28
A compact 35mm rangefinder camera with a fixed 40mm f/2.8 lens and automatic exposure controls.
The Canonet 28 is a simplified version of the famous QL17 rangefinder, designed for ease of use. It features a fixed 40mm f/2.8 lens and a programmed auto-exposure system based on a CdS light meter. The camera operates in auto mode when the lens is set to 'A', selecting the appropriate aperture and shutter speed combination. It is a compact, metal-bodied rangefinder that provides a tactile vintage shooting experience.
The original 1.35v mercury batteries are no longer available, so we check if the meter has been calibrated for 1.5v zinc-air or alkaline alternatives. SDS pays close attention to the light seals, which almost always require replacement on this model to prevent fogging. We also verify the rangefinder patch is bright and accurately aligned, and that the shutter blades are free from oil, which can cause sticking at slower speeds.
