SDS EUROPE LTD – Warranty Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 15/10/2025
These Warranty Terms and Conditions (the “Warranty Terms”) set out the terms of the limited warranty offered by SDS EUROPE LTD (“SDS”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) to the original purchaser (“you”, “your”, “customer”) of any product sold by SDS, whether purchased through our website, authorised sales platforms, or any other official sales channels.
This warranty is provided in addition to your statutory rights under United Kingdom law, including but not limited to the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and does not affect those rights in any way.
1. Definitions
For the purposes of these Warranty Terms, the following definitions shall apply:
1.1. “Vintage Camera” means any camera that is twenty (20) years old or older, or any camera that utilises a tape-based or film-based recording mechanism, including but not limited to Film Rolls, MiniDV, Hi8, VHS-C, or similar legacy formats.
1.2. “Modern Camera” means any camera manufactured within the last twenty (20) years that records onto a digital storage medium, including but not limited to SD cards, internal storage, SSDs, or removable flash media, and which is not defined as a Vintage Camera.
1.3. “Accessories and Other Products” means any item sold by SDS that is not a camera, including but not limited to lenses, converters, batteries, chargers, filters, adapters, mounts, cables, or other photographic equipment or peripherals.
1.4. “Normal Use” means use of the product in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications, instructions, and intended purpose, and does not include misuse, neglect, unauthorised modification, or accidental damage.
2. Warranty Coverage and Duration
2.1. SDS provides a six (6) month limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under Normal Use for all products sold by SDS, including cameras, accessories, and related equipment.
2.2. Vintage Cameras and Tape-Based Equipment
While covered by the same six (6) month warranty, vintage and tape-based products are supplied with the understanding that they are legacy devices subject to age-related limitations. This warranty covers functional defects that were present at the time of sale but does not guarantee long-term mechanical reliability. Excluded from coverage are any issues that arise due to:
(a) Routine servicing requirements such as tape transport wear, clogged video heads, or alignment adjustments.
(b) Age-related deterioration of components, including belt or drive wear.
(c) Failures caused by misuse, accidental damage, or operation outside of manufacturer guidelines.
2.3. Modern Cameras, Accessories, and Other Products
Coverage extends to mechanical or electrical failures, component defects, and operational malfunctions under Normal Use conditions. The warranty excludes accidental damage, liquid ingress, misuse, unauthorised modification, and normal cosmetic wear.
3. Conditions of Warranty
This limited warranty is valid only if all of the following conditions are met:
(a) The product was purchased directly from SDS EUROPE LTD or from an authorised SDS retailer or sales channel (including recognised third-party platforms such as eBay).
(b) The product has not been tampered with, modified, opened, repaired, or serviced by any person other than SDS or a technician expressly authorised in writing by SDS.
(c) If the product was supplied with a warranty seal, tamper-evident label, or security sticker, this must remain fully intact and unaltered. Removal, damage, or attempted removal of such seals will immediately void this warranty, as it indicates that the product may have been opened or interfered with.
(d) The product has been used under Normal Use conditions and has not been subjected to misuse, neglect, improper storage, accidental damage, or use contrary to the manufacturer’s intended purpose.
(e) The warranty claim is submitted within the applicable warranty period as set out in these Warranty Terms.
4. Warranty Claim Procedure
4.1. To make a warranty claim, the customer must:
(a) Notify SDS by email at office@sds.net within the warranty period, providing the original order number, a detailed description of the fault, and proof of purchase.
(b) Provide photographic or video evidence demonstrating the nature of the defect.
(c) Return the product to SDS, if requested, for inspection. All return shipping costs shall be borne by the customer unless otherwise agreed in writing.
4.2. Upon receipt of the returned product, SDS will inspect the item to verify the claimed defect. If confirmed, SDS will, at its sole discretion:
(a) Repair the product;
(b) Replace the product with the same model or a product of equivalent specification; or
(c) Issue a partial or full refund of the original purchase price.
4.3. All decisions regarding the validity of warranty claims and applicable remedies shall be made solely by SDS and shall be final and binding.
5. Limitations of Liability
5.1. This warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser.
5.2. SDS shall not be liable for any data, footage, recordings, or media stored on the product, and customers are strongly advised to back up all data before returning any item for inspection or repair.
5.3. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SDS shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss or damage, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, business interruption, or third-party claims, arising from the use or inability to use any product sold by SDS.
5.4. The total liability of SDS under this warranty shall not exceed the original purchase price of the product.
6. Statutory Rights
6.1. Nothing in these Warranty Terms shall limit or exclude any rights you may have under United Kingdom consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Under UK law:
(a) Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described.
(b) If a product is faulty within 30 days of delivery, you are entitled to a full refund.
(c) If a fault occurs after 30 days but within six months, you are entitled to a repair or replacement, and if that is not possible, a partial or full refund.
6.2. This warranty operates in addition to these statutory rights and does not limit or replace them.
